Sunday Late Night: Wish Bradley Manning Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday!

Bradley Manning is spending his third birthday in confinement, December 17th, approaching 1,000 days in pre-trial military custody. The Bradley Manning Support Network urges all of us to take a moment during the busy holiday season to wish PFC Manning a happy birthday.

You probably know someone with a near-Xmas, or even 12/25, birthday. I always felt these people got the short end of the attention. No matter how hard their family and friends tried, it seemed hard to make a birthday stand out during the holiday season. No doubt Bradley Manning might have experienced this birthday short-shrift growing up, but nothing compares to having spent these last three birthdays — turning 23, 24, and now 25 — in custody at the center of immense pressure being brought to bear by the justice system of the most powerful military on earth. I remember my birthdays in my mid-20s, surrounded by family & friends — and punctuated by various hilarities and good times. Not what Bradley Manning’s birthdays have been, not by a long shot.

So, let’s all take a moment to send Bradley Manning a birthday card! Help PFC Manning know we are thinking of the sacrifice for free information (allegedly) and that we want a happy a birthday as possible. Showering Bradley with cards and well-wishes is probably the best we can do to make this birthday pass pleasantly.

Here’s the information from the Bradley Manning Support Network:

Bradley can receive mail at the following address:

Commander, HHC USAG
Attn: PFC Bradley Manning
239 Sheridan Ave, Bldg 417
JBM-HH, VA 22211

Visit this link to read about mail restrictions.

I’m sending my birthday wishes tomorrow. Won’t you join me and take a moment out of your day to wish Bradley Manning a happy birthday?
