Paul Ryan in Ohio: Preventing Marriage Equality is a ‘Universal Human Value’

These homophobes can’t help themselves. Paul Ryan made some headlines and waves this week when he declared that the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is a done deal not worth revisiting.

“I talked to a lot of good friends of mine who are combat leaders in the theater, and they just didn’t think the timing of this was right to do this when our troops were in the middle of harm’s way in combat,” said Ryan. “Now that it’s done, we should not reverse it. I think that would be a step in the wrong direction because people have already disclosed themselves.”

“I think this issue is past us. It’s done. And I think we need to move on,” he said.

Lest anyone think that was a shift away from the GOP hardline support for institutionalized homophobia, Ryan made it clear that family values and the right of same-sex couples to marry are not compatible during a town hall in Cincinnati, Ohio, when asked by an audience member about the topic:

The things you talk about like traditional marriage and family and entrepreneurship. These aren’t values that are indicative to any one person or creed or color. These are American values, these are universal human values.”
