The Silence of the 99%
Isaiah 53:7: He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
And so it is with the 99%: oppressed, afflicted, dumb, and silent before and during the slaughter of their economic standard of living over the past several decades.
Try to imagine how John Adams, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, and others would have responded today to our governmental tyranny and taxation without legitimate representation. Would they have been as silent as us lambs?
Would they have advocated a reverence of the Constitution when legislation today is sold to the highest bidder? Would they have advocated working within the system? Is this what they advocated 237 years ago? Would they have counseled us to be patient and hope for change? Were they as patient as we have been? Did they wait and work through Parliament? Would they have advised us against the violent measures that they themselves undertook?
Is the Constitution an infallible document inspired by the Creator? Or is it a step in the evolutionary process of humanity, perhaps the best work of its time, but now sadly outdated, being over two centuries old? Is it time for a new covenant between us people and our government?
Bottom line, are we all lambs, unlike our forefathers, who put their lives on the line for a life worth living?
