“That slimy bastard never worked a day in his life.”

At a memorial meeting intended to remember the working class activists who gave their lives fighting for union recognition against Republic Steel, this is one account of what was said:

On Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, USW President Leo Gerard was equally blunt.

That slimy bastard never worked a day in his life,” he said. “I don’t know how working people could think of voting for him.”

Gerard continued to suggest that trade unionists honor the sacrifice of the Memorial Day martyrs by “making sure we use every bit of energy from now until November to return the president to the White House.”

Did Barack Obama ever work a day in his life?

The Democrats are trying to portray this election as being against Romney and Bain Capital without talking about Obama and the Fortress Investment Group; why?

If it is fair to talk about Romney and Bain Capital isn’t it fair to talk about Barack Obama and the Fortress Investment Group?

If we are expected to vote against Romney and Bain Capital are we expected to vote for Obama and the Fortress Investment Group?

Are we talking about returning Obama and the Fortress Investment Group to the White House? Is this what Leo Gerard is suggesting?

I don’t know how any worker could consider voting for Barack Obama or Mitt Romney considering the connection of one to Bain Capital and the other tethered to the Fortress Investment Group.

Aren’t both Obama and Romney “slimy bastards” because of their Wall Street connections who profit from these dirty wars and attacks on the living standards and livelihoods of working people?
