WE DO Campaign strikes back against Amendment One – lesbian seeking marriage license arrested

As I mentioned yesterday, the Campaign for Southern Equality’s WE DO Campaign, peaceful direct actions protesting marriage inequality, launched its latest series of events at county offices in North Carolina in the wake of the passage of Amendment One. Today there was an arrest in Winston-Salem.

Mary Jamis, 52, of Mocksville, and a heterosexual friend who joined the protest, Mary Lea Bradford of Winston-Salem, were arrested after they blocked the entrance to the marriage license office and refused to leave more than 30 minutes after closing time.

A county administrator tried to talk the women into leaving and avoiding arrest, but the two insisted they would stay unless Jamis was issued a marriage license for her and her partner, Starr Johnson, 48.

A half dozen female officers then crowded around Jamis and Bradford, who were seated. The officers asked them to stand, handcuffed them and led them out a side door and into a van to be booked at the county sheriff’s department across the street.

They were charged with second-degree trespass, a low-level misdemeanor, and released without bond, authorities said.

The WE DO campaign has these next stops in North Carolina, where more arrests are expected:

May 11th in Mitchell County (Bakersville) – 9:00 a.m.
May 11th in Madison County (Marshall) – 12:00 p.m.
May 11th in Asheville – 3:00 p.m.
May 14th in Asheboro – 9:30 a.m.
May 15th in Charlotte – 3:00 p.m.

Oh, by the way, check out some of the hateful, asinine comments at the CBS article. A sampling:

Typical lawless left wing behavior. It is state law and more importantly state constitutional law, assuming the criminal courts dont over turn the will of the people. People like these two simply want publicity and are spoiling for a fight. let them rot in jail in response.

They don’t want equality they force their lifestyles on others rape and molest. They are hateful, immoral, and evil.
You DO know that homophobia IS a treatable condition, right?

I think that it is sad to think that this type of protest is just a showboating of the refusal to abide by the standing law….unless you are a “perceived” minority of a bad choice..a poor means to get your way and to view all those who disagree as homophobes or bigots. The law wouldn’t have been changed or necessary except those who want to force their agenda and belief of such poor choices. People are and have suffered by being an actual minority not a convenient poor choice of selfish and one sided. I know such people and have stood with them and their just cause ….and it isn’t you confused lady….or confused guy…..just because all think you are “entitled” won’t change the fact that it is wrong…so stick with what you are given and don’t force stupidity by saying you are “equal” when in fact that isn’t the issue but just to force your selfish way of having sex how you want it…and all should agree with that or you will do like this poor attempt of showboating.

They don’t want equality they force their lifestyles on others rape and molest. They are hateful, immoral, and evil. They only have this time during the Church age to repent. In Israel they would have been stoned to Death. They need to repent now before the Lord returns or they will be destroyed in Hell. I understand freedom and the constitution. The government needs to get the Hell out of the Marriage business and the corrupt false ministers who want to marry those unregenerate sinners may do so but will be just as guilty as them. Freedom for all Amen. Judgement coming to all as well! Which one is more important. The living creator who wants nothing less for you not to go to Hell but spend eternity in His presence has came to earth as a human being and died in our place for all sins so that you may be forgiven through faith in that finished work.
