Economic confidence among Americans has been trending significantly upwards for five straight months according to Gallup. From Gallup:
While Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index of -27 is still objectively bad, it is a dramatic improvement from last summer. And there’s clearly a solid positive trend.
Events in the near future could potentially shake the American people’s economic confidence, sending the index back down. But for an incumbent President, the current trend makes this an extremely pretty chart.
Going into November, the more the American people think the economy is improving under President Obama’s watch, the more likely they are to give him another term.
With strong perceptions of economic improvement like this, it is no wonder polling has Obama doing the best he has in months in theoretical general election match ups.
