OCCUPY TUCSON Does What Occupies Do……for a 3rd Time Now, at a 3rd Park.

Occupy Tucson group photo posed for during latest eviction on Wednesday evening.

Occupy Tucson originally made a stand in solidarity with OWS and to actively exercise their first amendment rights to peaceably assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances at Armory Park beginning on October 14th. They were evicted from that first location on November 15th. That same evening they occupied Vente de Agosto Park in the center of downtown Tucson, having had in place a “bug-out re-occupy” plan. On this past Wednesday evening as I detailed in this post, they were evicted from that  2nd location. Noteworthy is the fact that yet once again they have left a public space cleaner than it was when they originally Occupied it more than a month ago.
Occupy Tucson during this brief  interim has managed to hold two emergency General Assemblies, gather itself, and Occupy yet a third location in which to peaceably assemble and petition their government for the redress of grievances. This new location is also a public park, and this time there is also the added incentive of having been invited by the surrounding Home Owners Associations. This invitation was extended not solely based upon political solidarity, but even more so……..because Occupy Tucson is perceived as a “good neighbor” to have, one that will increase the overall safety of the neighborhood. Makes you proud doesn’t it? This despite constant propaganda from the MSM, and constant persecution by the PTB.

During the "Bug-Out".

Speaking of persecution…….the persecution by the Tucson Police Department in implementing the will of the Tucson City Council and management team has been unrelenting. At present there have been 827 citations issued to date, to over a hundred occupiers, each constituting a potential fine of $1,000(some few as high as $2,500) as well as up to 6 months in jail. Over a month ago City Councilperson Regina Romero put forth a proposition to allow Occupy Tucson to protest at Vente de Agosto park by having it designated a “free speech zone”.

The proposition also contained provisions that would have dismissed the citations, and directed the Tucson Police Department to cease and desist from the violation of Tucsonan’s constitutionally protected rights. The proposition failed in a 3-3 tie, with the outgoing Republican Mayor not present and unable to be bothered to cast a vote by telephone during the session……..a common occurrence that I have witnessed several times. Two of the No votes were cast by Democratic Council members, one of whom, Paul Cunningham, came to the Occupy the following day and told us he would gladly become the fourth vote if we would meet him half way and at least apply for the park use permit. This was done the very next day.

The proposition was not brought up for a vote again, and Paul Cunningham did not keep his word. Silly us! He is a politician and his lips were moving, of course he was lying. On December 9th, the newly elected Democratic Mayor Jonathan Rothschild was sworn in to office. His new Honor the Mayor it turns out, is not a supporter of Occupy. I don’t know much of anything about the man, I cast my vote for Mary DeCamp (an Occupy Tucson overnighter by the way, and our first ever physical arrest….by choice) who ran as a Green Party candidate, but c’mon……the guy’s name is Rothschild…….insert your own 1% joke here [                           ]. At this writing, the Legal Working Group from Occupy Tucson is currently petitioning the courts yet once again for a restraining order to stop the continual violation of citizen’s constitutional rights by the Tucson Police Department.

Happy Holidays FireDogs………….I am grateful and proud to be a member of this community, particularly during these times. Today I had the privilege of delivering a $100 gift card from all of you to the Occupy Tucson Kitchen Working Group to help defray the costs of Xmas dinner. And check it out…….. thanks to all of your efforts, any gathering of Occupy Tucson Patriots now has the FireDogLake Occupy Supply logo proudly displayed……..simply all over the place. That’s priceless.

I guess that’s all from my purview in Tucson for now………I’ll leave you with my mostest favoritest quote :

“Give us grace and strength to forebear and persevere. Give us courage and gaiety and the quiet mind. Spare to us our friends and soften to us our enemies. Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temperate in wrath and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.” ~Robert Louis Stevenson~

The revolution has begun, and Spring is on the way.
Stay Strong, and take care of one another.
