Greg Davis, the very conservative Republican mayor of Southaven, Mississippi, was outed when an audit of city finances discovered a $67 purchase from a gay sex shop in Toronto, Ontario. When asked about it by a Memphis newspaper, Mayor Davis admitted that he was gay and that he could no longer maintain a separation between his personal and public life. Hiz Honor, who was first elected as mayor in 1997 and ran in 2008 for the U. S. House of Representatives, has been married for 19 years and has three daughters.

The audit occured as part of an investigation into his misuse of an estimated $170,000 in city funds which included expensive dinners, a pricey family vacation and purchases at local liquor stores.
