Occupy Supply at Kansas City, MO: Post #2
I want to thank all of you who have donated. These items have made a real difference in the lives of those who have been camping out.
And they have made a big difference to me as well, although I have been scrupulously righteous and I have delivered all of the product to the campers only. But I have felt very needed and very much a part of the occupation just in being able to deliver these goods. And Firedoglake is now becoming a very well known entity there.
Warm coats and gloves and hats with “Occupy Supply” insignia are becoming the norm at the camp. But we were not used to having “base gloves” (gloves to wear underneath heavier gloves) here and it caused some confusion. But I betcha they will love them sleeping in those cold tents. In the second shipment, we found a XX pair of long underwear. Now most people have lost weight doing camping. I highly recommend it for weight loss! And nobody owned up to ordering that set. But we have a fellow named “Wheels” who is in a wheel chair. And we gave them to him! They won’t fall off of him for sure!
Kansas City is in the middle and we have gotten a camper from LA and Denver. We’ve had campers visiting from Nebraska (who sang us Occupy Christmas songs), Des Moines and St. Louis. Des Moines has an action planned for the caucus season and have requested recruits. We’ve sent people to DC for that action. And we had to laugh. 8 of our fellow campers got arrested in DC but no one has ever been arrested here in KC. They had to travel pretty far to get their plastic bracelets. But the DC cops were not brutal and it was not a big war when they laid down in K Street. I commend the DC cops for their civility. [cont’d.]
I apologize for my poor pictures but here is how the camp looked in Sept. when they first started: (The camp is situated just to the North of the Liberty Memorial Mall dedicated to WW1. And just across the street from the Fed Reserve building.)
Now they have added a kitchen and a big army tent that gives us a roomy place for meeting and meals:
(I am in the first slide. I am in the yellow hoodie with just my nose sticking out!)
