So there I was, doing my daily surfing of various news and web sites when I noticed this from CNN about folks in Russia protesting the recent election that returned Vladimir Putin to the Russian leadership:
Tens of thousands of Russians turned out in central Moscow and across the country Saturday to protest what they believe were rigged parliamentary elections.
United Russia, the party of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, suffered big losses in the election, but retained its parliamentary majority. On Saturday, protesters chanted “Putin out,” according to a correspondent from state-run RIA Novosti news agency.
Then I remembered seeing this article yesterday at the NY Times where Putin is blaming US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the protests:
MOSCOW — Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin accused Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday of inciting unrest in Russia, as he grappled with the prospect of large-scale political protest for the first time in his more than decade-long rule.
In a rare personal accusation, Mr. Putin said Mrs. Clinton had sent “a signal” to “some actors in our country” after Sunday’s parliamentary elections, which were condemned as fraudulent by both international and Russian observers. Anger over the elections prompted a demonstration in which thousands chanted “Putin is a thief” and “Russia without Putin,” a development that has deeply unnerved the Kremlin.
Speaking to political allies as he announced the formation of his presidential campaign, Mr. Putin said that hundreds of millions of dollars in “foreign money” was being used to influence Russian politics, and that Mrs. Clinton had personally spurred protesters to action. The comments indicate a breakdown in the Obama administration’s sputtering effort to “reset” the relationship between the United States and Russia.
Wow! Deja vu all over again and all that. Here’s what I got when I went to der Googe and searched on “occupy protests are due to left wing agitators.” Searching on “anti war protesters are left wing agitators” brought these results while “commie agitators behind civil rights protests” brought these results.
Ya know, I think we have a theme here. Of course, if you have been paying attention or have studied some history, you know that those in power are quite likely to throw up some “boogity-boogity” to deflect blame from their own short comings so Putin is just following a long line of precedents set by rulers through out history. I do find a bit of irony though in seeing the Russian leader blaming his protests on the US after all the years of hearing US politicians blaming US protests on the Russians/Communists/USSR.
Maybe Putin should get with Jamie Dimon to work on his whines though since we know Dimon has the fine whine down pat.
And the video is because I can.
