Together
Ran into God the other day
He said times a coming and the winds do change
People will say they’ve had enough
They’ll say no more, enough is enough
I said brother I like what I’m hearing
But when’s this going to happen?
And he said that’s up to you and the people
Cause that’s the thing about free will, you pick, you choose, you act
He said ain’t no one coming to save you but you
Ain’t no thing you can’t do
Ain’t no thought you can’t think
And with that in mind, how like a God are you?
I said we got people in pain, and people in need
They’re getting ground down every second of every day
And I’m losing brothers and sisters every day
Too many, way too fucking many, I lost count
Can you help a brother out?
Can you spare a little time?
Can you lend a hand to those in need?
Can you stop The Machine???
He said brother, I wish I could
But I gave you a part of my own self
So your abilities, like mine, are limitless
And with it some of you have created The mindless Machine
And so it’s potential is limitless
It will grind till there is nothing left to grind,
And then … it will keep on grinding
Because that’s what it does, it’s the nature of the thing
The machine is you, The machine is your child,
And you have given it the mindless nature of juggernaut
And the only one that can stop it is you
Or else there will be nothing left … but the machine.
I stopped for a second to think about those words,
What they meant, and what they meant for us,
And I said then, Well brother wish us luck,
Watch our backs as we storm the gates of hell
He said, you have all you need to do what you must
Strong hands, a quick wit, humility, compassion, and empathy
But at the end of the day it’s always how you choose to use it
As for your back, you have millions and millions of brothers and sisters who would watch it better than me.
He finished,
I got hope for you as I do for myself,
And one day you will see it too,
And on that day remember your brothers and sisters,
Because it was them who watched your back.
Them who followed you to the gates of hell.
Them who you cried with, laughed with, and bled with.
And when the shite grew thick, it was them that stood firm, shoulder to shoulder, for whatever may come.

“From many one.”
“The total is greater than the sum of its parts.”
“United we stand, divided we fall.”
“We must learn to live together as brothers [and sisters] or perish together as fools.”
“A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
The greatest act the single human animal ever did was save itself from a predator looking for lunch. The greatest act the human species as a society ever accomplished … well that chapter is written every second in every day. There is no end to our potential … together.
And because Larue’s diary got me into the musical state of mind:
