Saving one animal won’t change the world but it will change the world for that animal.

All is quiet at Chez Tigre this week.

When I got Mojo in August 2010 I noticed that he had a growth on his right shoulder about the size of a small marble. By touch I could tell it wasn’t attached to anything other than his skin so I decided to let it go but to keep an eye on it. It hasn’t grown or decreased in size in that time and Mojo has been oblivious to it. When I took him in a couple weeks ago for his shots I told Dr about it and a smaller growth under his chin. Dr doesn’t like lumps on cats so we scheduled surgery for this past Thursday. The larger growth was, as I suspected, a fibrous mass known as a fibroma. It was well encapsulated and didn’t appear to be growing or spreading. The smaller growth was a small cyst encapsulated by other fibrous tissue. Dr and I both learned something about Devons. Their skin is thicker and tougher than the skin on other cats, due to the absence of all that hair we see on other cats. There’s also less subcutaneous tissue under the skin. Dr removed a lot of tissue around the large mass to ensure that he got all of it. Poor little guy’s got quite the suture line but so far he’s leaving them alone and doesn’t have to don the Little Lord Fauntleroy collar.

Two weeks and the sutures come out. I really hope he leaves them alone. That collar brings back a lot of unpleasant memories.

What is it about black cats and Halloween? I’m so glad you asked. There’s a website for that:

“Although cats of all types have been associated with the occult by different cultures, black cats in particular are noted most in folklore. Several legends exists about black cats being evil, causing bad luck, being the familiars of witches, and many other dark things.

Why is it that cats, and black cats in particular, are given these attributes? There are several possible things that may be the cause.”

Orange and black? Add a little white and you gotz a tiger.

Talk about tolerant.

Is there a video of Maru that isn’t cute?

My words are ery easy to understand, and very easy to practice:
But the world cannot understand them, nor practice them.

My words have an Ancestor.
My deeds have a Lod.
The people have no knowledge of this.
Therefore, they have no knowledge of me.

The fewer persons know me,
The nobler are they that follow me.
Therefore, the Sage wears coarse clothes,
While keeping the jade in his bosom.
