Throughout 2008, Herman Cain Repeatedly Mocked the Idea the Economy Was in a Recession

Before he was the GOP’s 2012 frontrunner, Herman Cain wrote a weekly, syndicated opinion column. And he devoted a lot of his columns in 2008 to talking about how awesome the economy was — and basically saying that anyone who said otherwise was just trying to make Republicans look bad. Recession? Spare Us the National Economic Pity Party

We are in an economic correction, not an economic recession.

Get a Grip, Media: Recession Obsession is Dangerous

The media’s factually unsubstantiated claims of an impending recession have been going on for over a year. There is a crisis that no one is talking about. It’s not the energy dependence crisis, the spending crisis in our federal government, the imaginary-though-fragile economic crisis nor the mainstream media’s it’s-not-a-crisis-but-we-are-going-to-make-it-look-like-one banking crisis.

And this is the best one — from September 1, 2008.

Economic Growth Surges Ahead, But Democrats Ignore the Truth Again

Two weeks later, Lehman filed for bankruptcy and the Dow crashed. Oops.

We now know that the Great Recession started in December 2007. But with a presidential election coming up, the right’s blindest partisans had to spend the year literally denying reality — hence all of that embarrassing “Dude, where’s my recession?” stuff.

I know Republican voters don’t put too much stock in being right about stuff, but Cain’s opponents should have some fun with this.
