For me, one of the saddest things to come out of this whole sorry mess we live in today is that I can no longer trust what passes for journalism in this country today to tell me the truth.

If I want to know what’s actually going on in my country, I can no longer flip on the TV or unfold a newspaper and get the story because my TV networks and newspapers are now controlled by people with a vested interest in trying to keep me ignorant and ill informed, a tactic that has stood them in excellent stead with the huge numbers of willfully ignorant and incurious people we refer to collectively as the “Tea Party”.

So now, if I want to know about what’s actually behind the ten second sound byte or the underlying issues behind the latest corporate media meme or talking point, I don’t even bother trying to get it from the Corporate controlled American Ministry of Propaganda we used to trustingly refer to as our “Fourth Estate” but indeed have had to turn to foreign sources for “other side” of the story.

My regular morning newspapers and/or news sources (on line) are now The BBC, The Independent and The Guardian (UK), Russia Today (Russia), le Monde (France) and Al Jazeera (Qatar).  It’s been years since I even surfed across our three major networks and I only look at cable news these when someone makes a reference to a particular story or item in one of the many blogs I follow.

Take for example, the piece from Al Jazeera linked below.  Lord, I can hear my Teaper friends’ heads popping like Champagne corks at a Republican victory party at just hearing the name, “Al Jazeera”.  The idea that they would actually READ anything in it is beyond imagining so I’m not going to ask you to try to imagine that.

Imagine instead how our MSM would… and does… spin basic little stories like this about real human beings with their backs to the wall, something our own rock star “analpundits” and bobbleheads couldn’t begin to wrap their egotistical and pointy little heads around.  The contrast is clear.

The richest 1% of US Americans earn nearly a quarter of the country’s income and control an astonishing 40% of its wealth. Inequality in the US is more extreme than it’s been in almost a century — and the gap between the super rich and the poor and middle class people has widened drastically over the last 30 years.

Meanwhile, in Washington, a bitter partisan debate over how to cut deficit spending and reduce the US’ 14.3 trillion dollar debt is underway. As low and middle class wages stagnate and unemployment remains above 9%, Republicans and Democrats are tussling over whether to slash funding for the medical and retirement programs that are the backbone of the US’s social safety net, and whether to raise taxes — or to cut them further.

The budget debate and the economy are the battleground on which the 2012 presidential election race will be fought. And the United States has never seemed so divided — both politically and economically.

How did the gap grow so wide, and so quickly? And how are the convictions, campaign contributions and charitable donations of the top 1% impacting the other 99% of Americans? Fault Lines investigates the gap between the rich and the rest  HERE:

Liberal bloggers have been talking about the income gap and economic inequality for years now.  We’ve seen those same numbers dozens of times and so have the people who make up the MSM.  But they are no longer interested in informing the American people of anything their Wall Street leash holders don’t want them to know and few of us have the resources to reach even a fraction of the vast audience that the MSM manages to maintain, even with the growing number of people that are starting to realize truly what a nest of whores and pimps they’ve become.

Hell, FOX even went to the SCOTUS and got blanket permission to outright LIE to it’s viewers any time they felt it was in the interests of their extreme right wing agenda.  If the others are any better, it’s only by a matter of degrees and not too damned many degrees either.

I honestly think that if we’re interested in taking our country back, one of the first things we need to be doing is regaining our access to the honest truth and the honest truth is not to be found anywhere within the predominant sources of “news and information” in this country  and I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not, but  they’re coming after the Internet even now.

If we lose this war, it’s going to be because willfully ignorant people… some of whom even take PRIDE in their ignorance… refused to take the extra steps to arm themselves with the knowledge they needed to fight it.  Takes too much time away from their NASCAR Sunday Spectacular and the latest news on… oh hell, I don’t know… the flipping Kardashians or Sarah Palin’s hair person or whoever the reality attention whore of the week is this week.
