The Senate vote will be held at 12 noon today.
11:38 – Jon Kyl: Accuses Obama of knowingly destroying the military capacity of the United States with a trigger in this bill that is “Armageddon for the US Military.” Then says he will vote for the bill.
11:24 – Fake roll call.
11:14 – Ayotte: Will not be voting yes because this bill will lead to a downgrade of our debt. The Republicans are harping on the inevitable ratings downgrade pretty hard.
10:58 – Lieberman: People argue that Social Security has a deficit but it doesn’t because of the money we take out when we borrow from it — to pay for Joe’s wars and his corrupt Department of Homeland Security.
10:36 – Jeff Merkeley: This Obama-Boehner debt deal is estimated to cut between 100,000-300,000 jobs. Isn’t that the wrong direction? EPI estimates that “there could be 1.8 million fewer jobs and a 0.6 percentage point increase in the unemployment rate in 2012 as a result of abandoning current budget policies.”
10:20 – Orrin Hatch: The President wanted a clean raise in the debt ceiling with no decrease in spending. The Republicans said no. Not true. McConnell offered a clean debt ceiling raise on July 12. Obama rejected it.
