Nancy Pelosi has been uncharacteristically quiet since the debt compromise was announced this weekend. Her instructions to the Democratic caucus: “leave it to our individual consciences”. When asked if the bill would pass she just said “you’d have to ask the speaker”, and today: “I look forward to reviewing the legislation with my caucus to see what level of support we can provide.”  Pretty cagey stuff. Now, she must be completely steamed with Obama’s total capitulation, so why the demure attitude? Is she just trying to avoid being painted with the same brush as Obama when the backlash hits? Is she trying to stay out of the cross-fire? Is it really  just politics? This is a pretty important point in the country’s history – she should be out there tearing down the Tea Party newbies; exposing how heartless this decision is; how Obama has failed us. Instead, she’s just hiding in the corner. Will no one speak for us…
