Establishment Republicans Beginning to Lose Patience with Teabaggers
The old members of the country club are beginning to fret that the rubes they let in are trashing the place.
Fred Thompson pleads,
Now it is the time to accept a well-won victory and move on.
Bill Kristol says any Republican who votes against Boehner is objectively pro-Obama.
When wavering House Republicans think the current situation through, they won’t choose to join the pro-Obama right. They’ll choose to stand with John Boehner against Barack Obama. Because victory over Obama is no vice. And losing to Obama is no virtue.
The Wall Street Journal is at its cattiest.
The idea seems to be that if the House GOP refuses to raise the debt ceiling, a default crisis or gradual government shutdown will ensue, and the public will turn en masse against . . . Barack Obama. The Republican House that failed to raise the debt ceiling would somehow escape all blame. Then Democrats would have no choice but to pass a balanced-budget amendment and reform entitlements, and the tea-party Hobbits could return to Middle Earth having defeated Mordor. This is the kind of crack political thinking that turned Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell into GOP Senate nominees.
Meanwhile, Tanman is about lose it.
Scrambling for votes on his troubled deficit package, Speaker John Boehner bluntly told wavering GOP lawmakers Wednesday morning to “get your ass in line” behind his debt ceiling bill.
Back in ’09 and ’10, Bill Kristol and John Boehner cheered on these loons as they staged Putsche all over the country dressed in colonial garb and waving their little “Don’t Tread on Me” flags. But what did they think these Tenther Teahadists would do once they got elected?
Can’t put the crazy back in the tube, guys.
