National Day of Action: DeGette (CO-01)

At DeGette's Office on National Day of Action

At DeGette's Office on National Day of Action

Here’s the text of the letter I delivered to DeGette’s office today, along with the FDL Fact Sheet:

Dear Representative DeGette:

Today I participate with over 2,500 other voters across the Nation to deliver this message to our Congressional Representatives:

Do Not Touch Social Security or Medicare

Attached is a fact sheet detailing the exact reasons.

The so called “Grand Bargain” the President is trying to put together with cuts to Social Security and Medicare is ill-informed, ill-conceived and irresponsible. At a time when we voters are expecting bold programs for jobs and to increase prosperity, somehow austerity fever has taken hold and we are being told to prepare for shared sacrifice.

In the austerity path lies madness, as it is not working in any country that is currently trying it.

I remind you that you have a special duty to not only Colorado District 1, but to all of Colorado and the Nation as you are Chief Deputy Whip. I call on you to oppose any plan by anyone, including the President and Democratic leadership, that includes any type of reduction to Social Security or Medicare, including changing the COLA indexing.

I assure you that myself and voters across the country will punish incumbents who endorse or enact any such plans – national polling confirms that.

As you yourself closed your Huffington Post article of July 13th – your “constituents expect nothing less.”

Sincerely,

Kelly E. Canfield
