This is my very first post on FDL, and I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but I am so angry with Washington, and most particularly our supposedly Democratic, Progressive President that I felt I had to let off some steam, so here goes — The president is neither a Democrat nor a Progessive, and as many others have posted on this site, he is more and more looking like a closet Republican!  I just heard  part of his regular Saturday youtube address on MSNBC, when I hear him saying “it isn’t fair to cut programs and not have the wealthy pay their fair share.”  REALLY! Then why do you continue to say you want the “big deal” which appears to be cutting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security without any revenue increases from the wealthy and corporations, because the Republicans continue to state very clearly that they will not support ANY revenue increases!!  When is the President going to realize that while he is willing to compromise away everything the Democratic Party stands for, the Republicans are not willing to compromise on anything, but particularly none of their precious tax breaks?  It is infuriating to me, and then I heard Lawrence O’Donnell last week on MSNBC saying he thinks the President never had any intention of cutting entitlements, that this is just a negotiating tactic, since if everything isn’t agreed to, nothing is actually agreed to.  Would that were true, but I fear it is more that every time the President “negotiates” with the Congress (both before and after the Republican takeover of the House), he just gives away the farm from the get-go, and essentially gives the Republicans and Blue-Dog Dems everything they want!  He did it on the stimulus (more tax breaks than infrastructure spending), health care (no public option)  and now on the faux debt crisis! It is a faux crisis, made up by the Republicans as their attempt to cut all the programs near and dear to we progressives’ hearts.  Meanwhile, we have a 9.2% jobless rate (and that doesn’t even include the “underemployed” and those who have totally given up looking for a job!) and where is the stimulus to create those jobs??  Nowhere, because the President is too busy worrying about this faux debt crisis instead of creating more stimulus which is needed to create jobs now.   I know President Obama is a very intelligent man, so how can he not see that he is playing right into Mitch McConnell’s hands (he clearly stated he wants the President to be a one-term President).  He very likely will be, and he won’t get my vote again if he continues on this path!  This is exactly what the Republicans want — the economy to continue to go further down the drain, the unemployment rate to continue to increase — so they can tell the American people “see what President Obama did to the economy — you need to vote for the Republicans this time around).  Like I said, I’m fed up, and I don’t know how to fix this except to draft a real progressive to run against the President in the primary (maybe draft Russ Feingold??)
