Herman Cain’s Bill Of Rights Fail
It looks like scrappy underdog crackpot Herman Cain is going all-in for the 2012 Crazy Primary. In the face of stiff competition from Michele Bachmann, he’s appealing to the right’s anti-Muslim bigotry and constitutional illiteracy all in one fell swoop. Here he is weighing in on plans to build an Islamic center in Murfreesboro, TN, a mere 750 miles away from Ground Zero:
It is an infringement and an abuse of our freedom of religion. And I don’t agree with what’s happening, because this isn’t an innocent mosque.”
It is another example of why I believe in American laws and American courts. This is just another way to try to gradually sneak Shariah law into our laws, and I absolutely object to that.
Islam is so insidious and powerful that its very presence is enough to make Christian worship impossible, in much the same way that marriage equality makes traditional marriage impossible. Not only that, but an Islamic center in a region where Christianity is so under-represented would give this sinister invader just the beachhead it needs to begin subverting our heretofore-completely-secular legal system.
Poor, poor oppressed Christianity. If only it could find some way to exert even a tiny bit of political influence, maybe then its adherents would be free to live and worship as they please, instead of being pushed around by the gay Muslim socialist abortion doctors who control all three branches of our government.
Special Bonus Herman Cain Islamophobia Fail: Cain attempts to explain that when he said he would never appoint a Muslim judge or cabinet member, he was actually saying he would never appoint a terrorist. Not really helping…
Special Bonus Bill Of Rights Fail: Citrus County Tea Party Patriots leader explains her opposition to laws protecting manatees from speedboats: “We cannot elevate nature above people. That’s against the Bible and the Bill of Rights.”
Special Bonus Palinfreude: If a Sarah Palin hagiography plays in a conservative stronghold and no one watches it, does it make a sound?
