I just noticed (come on – I’m old so cut me some slack) that our Pentagon has noticed that those special metals that make all our electronics and weapons work called “rare earths” were 95% from China, and that China was putting the squeeze on the US,  Japan, and the West by saying it needed more and more of that supply for internal use.

Now it seems Japan noticed  that the ophiolites from the uplifted sea bed that China mines for these rare earths is duplicated on the sea bed – albeit 20,000 feet down, but the idea of mining that bed is now being tossed about – at least in Japan.

But our Pentagon has been looking at the old mines in the US that once supplied us until the companies found that China’s willingness to ignore the environment and worker safety made for a cheaper source of rare earths.  So now we hear that for some “unknown” reason  Molycorp is in the process of re-opening the Mountain Pass rare earths mine in California.  Next is likely to be the large underground deposit in the old Pearidge mine in Missouri.

So all we need do to bring jobs back to the US is get the Pentagon involved!  I knew there would be a simple solution to the jobs problem.
