For one glaring and blindingly obvious reason – it has a disproportionate impact on African Americans. It’s already bad – these proposals to raise the age limits make it worse.

The life span of the African American male is 69.7 years as opposed to 75.7 years for white males.

and, http://seniorhealth.about.com/library/news/blafa.htm

According to the National Vital Statistics Reports (Vol. 47, No. 28), African American life expectancy is 70.2 years, compared to an average of 76.5 years for all population groups.

So, go back to the drawing boards. In fact, in light of unemployment statistics for those over 55, get working on LOWERING the age for both.

In the meantime, if you want to cut costs in Medicare – NEGOTIATE DRUG COSTS you morons! Like every other country in the world does for a national health program.
