Boarded up school in Atlanta Ohio–This is what Americans will get if they continue to follow plutocrat pied pipers like Betsy DeVos and David Koch
Many of us marvel when outcomes of elections indicate that people have once again voted against what is verifiably in their best interests and we ask why? How could they?
No finer example of this than our public school system. At least 90% of the American voters with children could not afford to send them to private school if that were the only option–even with school vouchers. Private school tuition is beyond the reach of most American parents–particularly single parents and families where both parents must work in order keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. For example, tuition for the private school attended by President Obama and Vice President Biden’s children and grandchildren is $28,000 per student per year.
How do the plutocrats like Betsy DeVos, David Koch, the Olin and Mellon-Scaife families convince people to support them in their heinous efforts to dismantle public education, a mainstay of Democracy?
They accomplish their nefarious goal with propaganda. This is why I am so adamant in believing that the only way the majority can will and establish the democracy we have never had is to educate them regarding the propaganda that is used against them and alert them to the plutocrats like Betsy DeVos who are leading this effort.
Their propaganda campaigns craft two messages: one for the insiders and one for the general public.
In the case of the school vouchers, they have crafted two messages: one for committed followers and one for the broader public. In fact this is the strategy they follow to promote any piece of their ideology that is aimed to dismantle our nation and put people like them in total control.
For example, the Florida-based James Madison Institute, a right-wing think tank, has stated that it “believes that parents should have freedom to make decisions in the best interests of their children.” Most Americans, even those who strongly support public education would agree with such statements. These words, of course, leave unmentioned, the fact that the James Madison Institute’s education policy director has signed a proclamation that calls for scrapping the public education system. SOURCE
Here are two of the double propaganda messages associated with School Vouchers
GENERAL PUBLIC MESSAGE: Parents should have freedom to make decisions in the best interests of their children.
INSIDER MESSAGE TO RIGHT WING IDEOLOGUES: We have signed a proclamation that calls for the scrapping of the public education system
GENERAL PUBLIC MESSAGE: Vouchers will actually strengthen public schools by forcing them to improve through the magic of competition and market forces.
INSIDER MESSAGES: Heartland Institute’s Joseph Bast has urged others who share his group’s extreme agenda to be patient. ”The complete privatization of Schooling might be desirable, but this objective is politically impossible for the time being. Vouchers are a type of reform that is possible now, and would put us on the path to further privatization. [Joseph Bast “2002:The Year of School Vouchers,” The Monthly Heartlander, February 2002, accessed at www.heartland.org/heartlander/hlfeb02htm] . From the Heritage Institute: ”because a privatized system of universal education will outperform public schools.
Vouchers are part of a broader strategy promoted by plutocrat privatizers such as those from the Koch, DeVos, Mellon-Scaife funders. They have also called for weakening or repealing compulsory school attendance law, teacher certification requirements and other laws and standards that are the linchpins of public education. In 2001, for example, and article by the Mackinac Institute endorsed “privatizing or even loosening teacher certification.
[See: Samuel Bluemfield, “Are Compulsory School Attendance Laws Necessary? Freedom Daily, The Future of Freedom Foundation, Pay 1991; Jeffery Ware, “Privatizing Teacher Certification,” Mackinac Center for Public POlicy, Sept 12, 2001, accessed at www.educationreport.org’
NOTE: In regard to the Mackinac Institute: Dick and Betsy DeVos have donated substantially to this right-wing think tank.
GRIID shared a Mother Jones news reportshowing how Governor Rick Snyder’s emergency manager/martial law legislation came directly from the radically conservative Mackinac Center for Public Policy (slogan: “Advancing Liberty and Prosperity.”)
In fact, many of the Mackinac-generated “research” studies are nothing but thinly disguised class warfare tactics that Snyder appears to be using currently in his takeover of the state on behalf of the capitalists. The “mismanagement” of Michigan cities (justification for putting them in the hands of private corporations and dissolving union contracts) is explored in one study.Attacks on collective bargaining and union spending are covered. So is the supposedoverspending on public education in Michigan. Another paper recommends the repeal of Michigan’s Wage Act. (To see a listing of all studies, click here.)
But a more significant question is: Who is driving this neo-conservative think tank? Why is the Governor siphoning his ideas directly from it into legislative policy? Who’s really running Michigan? for more, read about the real KINGS OF MICHIGAN
