Irony Alert: Koch Brothers Call Critics Extremists
You’ll not be surprised to learn that the men behind the Teabagger craziness and hysteria are in fact, crazy hysterics.
In lengthy interviews with a conservative magazine, the billionaire Koch brothers mounted an aggressive defense of their business and political interests, describing their liberal critics as “very, very extreme” and “very dangerous” and President Barack Obama as a “radical” with “Marxist” ideas whose success is owed largely to his “silver tongue.”
Obama is “the most radical president we’ve ever had as a nation … and has done more damage to the free enterprise system and long-term prosperity than any president we’ve ever had,” David Koch is quoted saying in a story posted late Friday on the website of the Weekly Standard.
A little historical perspective.
Teddy Roosevelt sued monopolies, busted up trusts and seized millions of acres of land for the US government. FDR imposed unprecedented regulations on Wall Street, levied heavy taxes on the rich and created Social Security. Richard Nixon imposed wage and price controls, put the final nail in the coffin of the gold standard and established the EPA.
Obama, on the other hand, continued the Bush TARP program, cut taxes and rescued the auto industry, resulting in record corporate profits. Marxist tyranny!
David’s brother Charles Koch said of Obama: “I’m not saying he’s a Marxist, but he’s internalized some Marxist models — that is, that business tends to be successful by exploiting its customers and workers.”
Because things were so much better in this country when the railroads and the coal companies ran everything and children made a nickel a day working in factories 7 days a week.
At any rate, the Kochs are the sons of one of the founders of the John Birch Society and would like to repeal the entire 20th century — so I’m pretty sure they’re not in a position to call anyone else “radicals” or “extremists.”
