Water Cooler – Some Young Conservatives Do Reject Racism
I really like Dave Weigel of Slate. He is probably somewhere to the Right of me, but for all of that the guy is what I would call real reporter. So when he wants to show off some of the young folks at CPAC I’m willing to take a look.
What I found was AWESOME! Now I am the first one to hammer Conservatives, it is kind of what I got into blogging to do, so I know that I am not always fair in my characterizations, even though I do try to stay on the white side of gray. But tonight, my fellow Firedogs, I am here to tell you that I have some respect for some young ultra conservatives. It is not like we would agree on much of anything when it comes to policy but to see these young folks hammer away a White Supremacist recruiter there at CPAC makes me a pretty darn happy. Take a look at this video. It is long 14 minutes, but the whole thing is worth while to me.
What’s going on is Jamie Kelso, who is a White Nationalist Recruiter is talking to this group of twenty-something’s in the hall way. He is going on and on about how if you have a child with someone of non-European descent, you will alter or lose the genetic distinctiveness of your linage forever. Yeah it is the old “one drop of blood” argument. What is great is the gasp of disbelief that this elicits from the young woman.
Now, of course they are all wrapped up in the other Right-wing stuff, but they never give a bit of ground on the racism point. Is there hope for these young conservatives? Flying Spaghetti Monster help me is there really a possibility of common ground?
Who knows? If this kind of rejection of bigotry continues, we might be able to stop talking about full rights for all citizens, we might be able to let women control their own reproduction and only have to argue about taxes and regulation! I probably am reading too much into one group of young people rejecting an old racist whose time has passed, but I’ll take the almost sugar high it gives me.
What’s on your mind tonight Firedogs? The floor is yours.
