Sigh. What do you do when time and time and time again, there is a pattern of behavior which seems to follow the propaganda that emanates from the Right? The Right and their propaganda machine scrambled after the Tucson shootings to say it could not possibly be their fault that this mad man attacked a member of Congress.

They have disavowed their responsibility again. Here is another example that should lead the conclusion that whipping up hate of any kind is dangerous. Last Monday a man was arrested outside of the big Mosque in Dearborn. His name is Roger Stockman, he is a 63 year old veteran of the Army and the trunk of his car was filled with Class C fireworks, which are like M-80s and higher. Enough of them could do some serious damage.

Mr. Stockman is from California and it is unclear if he drove from there or flew. Apparently Mr. Stockman was drinking in a bar and threatening to do harm to a mosque in Dearborn. When he left an employee of the bar followed him outside and got the license plate number of his car, then reported it to the police.

They took the threat very seriously and found him parked behind the mosque. Where they arrested him and are holding him on 500,000 in bail. Good work by the police and the employee of that bar. But what I wanted to show you was the interview with Imad Hamad who is the local head of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination League.

Mr. Hamad makes the point very clearly that there has been a rise in these kinds of threats and attempts because there has been a rise in the hateful rhetoric against Muslims. He also makes the point that every American should make, that you can’t be hateful at one religion without slamming them all. Now as an Atheist I don’t have a lot of use for religion, but as a citizen of this country I do insist on and respect the right of all my fellow citizens to have a religion or none as they choose.

Saying that all Muslims are terrorists is like saying all redheads are quick to fight. It is intellectually lazy in the extreme, but that is where the extreme Right (and now way too many member of the Republican Party) is today.

What’s on your mind tonight Firedogs? The floor is yours.
