According to Bradley Manning’s lawyer David Coombs, PFC Bradley Manning is not being treated like every other detainee. From the latest entry on his lawyer’s website:
Despite the assertion of Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell, PFC Bradley Manning is not being treated like every other detainee at the Quantico brig. Morrell stated during today’s Pentagon briefing that PFC Manning’s “confinement is not in the least different from the manner in which anyone else at the brig is being held.” This statement is patently false.
He goes on to describe the differences between how Bradley Manning is treated and how other detainees are treated. Basically, all other detainees can be outside their cells most of the day, are assigned to work duty, can exercise in their cells, have sheets and pillows and up to 15 magazines or books in the cell at any time, do not have to answer if they’re ok every 5 minutes, are allowed to sleep through the night no matter what position they’re sleeping in.
I highly recommend the lawyer’s post. It’s very instructive.
