It’s no different than automotive insurance.

You want to buy a firearm?

Fine.

But when you blow off someone’s head, either by accident or self-defense, you should have a policy to pay for the consequences. The bigger the gun, the bigger the policy. The more guns you own, the more money gets drained out of your pocket to maintain the different policies.

And if your gun insurance company requires a background check or mental evaluation, and you fail either, no gun for you.

This seems like a fairly simple, common sense idea, which means there is no chance of something like this getting passed in the U.S. of A.
