Primary Challenge Obama
President Obama today defiantly defended his compromise plan to extend the Bush tax cuts, insisting in a news conference, “This isn’t the politics of the moment, this has to do with what can we get done right now.” He lashed out at his critics on the left, who have accused the president of abandoning his Democratic principles by cutting a deal with Republicans.
Obama lashed out at his critics on the left . . . that’s a new strategery
TPM . . .
In the final question of today’s press conference, President Obama was asked by Jonathan Weisman of the Wall Street Journal how he would respond to Democrats who think he’s compromised too much in agreeing on a two-year extension of all the Bush-era tax cuts — even for the wealthiest Americans — and that they have a hard time figuring out his core principles on what issues he would go to the mat for. Obama then responded forcefully, saying that the positions of such people on the left would result in getting nothing done, except having a “sanctimonious” pride in the purity of their own positions.
Obama responded forcefully. Against us. Another new strategery
He talked for quite awhile, he used all sorts of words, he spoke of his “Centrist” wisdom and praised his “pragmatism.“ He dressed it all up in Obamaisms, but it’s the same message the Lords of the Beltway have been sending us for thirty years . . .
The billionaires get to pay less tax,
The working poor get to fall through the cracks,
So let ’em eat jellybeans, let ’em eat cake,
Let ‘em eat shit, whatever it takes.
That’s Obama’s message, that’s Obama’s agenda, it’s been his agenda ever since he put his pragmatic paw on that Bible and lied his way through his Oath of Office.
You don’t have to take my word for it . . .
You can read it in the papers, read it on the wall,
hear it on the wind if you’re listening at all.
Welcome to change we can believe in, where dust devils dance in the noonday heat, where there’s rats in the alley and trash in the street, where there’s empty storefronts around the square, politicians in the gutter and lies everywhere . . .
I’m done listening to Obama. Everyone on the Left should be done listening to him. It’s time for us to listen to Mohandas Gandhi . . .
Determined people, fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission, can alter the course of history.
Change the course of history.
