The National Journal reports that the Senate Judiciary Committee will move the nomination on Michelle Leonhart for DEA administrator next week after a seven-month delay. Leonhart, a drug warrior to the core, has served as the temporary head of DEA since she was promoted to that position by George W. Bush in 2007.
In her time at the DEA, Leonhart has organized the campaign against medical marijuana, and ignored the clear directive from Attorney General Eric Holder to stop raiding dispensaries. Despite this flagrant insubordination, President Obama saw fit to nominate Leonhart to serve as the official DEA head earlier this year. And now, it looks like Leonhart will move through the Senate, with few signs that anyone in the Senate will actually fight her nomination, let alone stop it.
We need a legit honest-services fraud law. Here’s how to get one.
Always genteel, Washington State’s Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna likes to portray himself as a moderate. Being relatively new to Washington, I only started to think about Mr. McKenna’s political positioning recently as LGBT friends & allies started mentioning that they had spotted him at this or that event. Delighted
I wanted to highlight something about the Cat Food Commission to permanently shrink government, something we’ve all known about, but which hasn’t been laid out in specific detail in a while. This Presidential commission has been borrowing paid staffers from groups that are ideologically committed to destroying the social safety
The Group of 20 industrial nations and emerging economies is presently meeting in Seoul in an attempt to deal with the prevailing chaos of the global economic situation. The outlook at the moment is that when the meeting ends tomorrow the situation will not have changed very much as a result of the meeting.
The proposed Korean “free trade” agreement would be a truly horrific blow to whatever is left of American manufacturing at a time when unemployment is rampant. But from a political standpoint, fighting for another so-called “free trade” agreement right now has got to represent some kind of death wish for the Democratic party. I don’t have any other way to explain it.
The U.S. is engaged in unpopular, unwinnable and unaffordable laws. Fighting these wars in a collapsed economy is an opportunity to build an era of opposition to U.S. militarism.
How about we hold burn the book in effigy? Then we donate the cost of that book to a local charity?
I would make one addition to, what I consider to be, the relevant comments made by so many on the fact that Obama did not “blunder” in creating the so called “cat-food commission”, but was implementing a considered policy decision. I would just reference the May 10th Wall Street Journal,
Two days ago, a local TV news helicopter filmed a long contrail with something metallic at its apex approaching the California coast from the Pacific Ocean for about ten minutes. Remember the ten minutes part; it’s critical. The newscaster said the thing looked like a missile. Within minutes, calls were
