Late Night: Pouting Baby is Happy the Tea Partiers Lost

Pouting Baby is talking to us again.  –JW

I’m not pouting today!  I’m happy because the mean Tea Party people lost most of their elections. I saw this article yesterday morning that told me less than a third of them won:

For all the talk of the Tea Party’s strength – and there will certainly be a significant number of their candidates in Congress – just 32% of all Tea Party candidates who ran for Congress won and 61.4% lost this election. A few races remain too close to call.

In the Senate, 10 candidates backed by the Tea Party ran and at least five were successful. (Race in Alaska has not yet been called.)

In the House, 130 Tea Party-backed candidates ran, and just 40 so far have won

And then Mr. DDay told me that the Progressive Caucus (that’s the nice group!) is going to get bigger this year:

Democrats picked up three seats from Republicans, making good on some prior anomalies and realigning correctly. Colleen Hanabusa (HI-01), Cedric Richmond (LA-02) and John Carney (DE-AL) all won. Of those, I would say Hanabusa and Richmond will join the Progressive Caucus. In AL-07, Terri Sewell replaced Artur Davis. She’s a lot more progressive than he ever was, and she will likely join the caucus. David Cicilline (RI-01), the replacement for Patrick Kennedy and another openly gay member of Congress, is likely to join (Patrick Kennedy never did). The race that a progressive lost in a primary, Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (MI-13), was over ethical issues, and she’ll be replaced by Hansen Clarke, likely to join the caucus.

What’s likely, then, is an increase in the ranks of the Progressive Caucus numbers.

Later, Miss Rachel explained to us about the Tea Partiers who did win. I don’t think these old people are going to change anything:

Remember, too that our side had 215,000 in its rally on the mall and they only got 87,000.  I’m so happy I might even smile.
