Tea Party Patriots’ Eight-State Poll Monitoring Plan

[Ed. note: If you hear of any poll monitoring plans, do share in comments.]

I previously told you about an eight-state plan by Let Freedom Ring and Tea Party Patriots to do poll watching on Election Day.

Letters went out to elections officials in eight states requesting “non-affiliated” poll watcher certificates for TPP poll watchers and said that TPP people would be identified by TPP buttons or lapel pins.

Colin Hanna, CEO of LFR gave me a follow up phone interview with the latest developments. Most of the states turned down the request for non-affiliated, that is not affiliated with a known political party or campaign, poll watcher certificates. In those states, the TPP volunteers are being told to sign up with the political party of their choice to be a poll watcher credentialed via that party.

Some states, but he would not name names, may have acceded to the request for non-affiliated poll watcher credentials. Mr. Hanna reports that at least some counties have given answers that conflicted with other counties in that same state and with the state officials. That could lead to some serious confusion among elections officials.

The TPP poll watchers are being trained by the TPP organization via an online video. They do intend to wear their TPP buttons and pins inside the polling places and have been supplies with references to the local laws regarding such activity.

Some TPP poll watchers will be running turnout numbers and have been supplied with voter lists for that purpose. Mr. Hanna says that TPP poll watchers have not been given challenge lists.

TPP is not affiliated with LFR, but the two organizations have done prior projects together according to Hanna.

Oh, and the new iPhone app that came out for poll watching is theirs.
