OH Sen: With Portman’s 19-Point Lead, GOP Likely to Hold Seat

Any hopes Democrats once had (say, at the beginning of 2009) to take the open Ohio Senate seat now appear to be completely gone. The latest Quinnipiac poll of likely voter has Republican Rob Portman with a massive 19-point lead.

Quinnipiac
(9/29-10/3)
Rob Portman (R) 55
Lee Fisher (D) 36
DK/NA 8

Portman is in extremely goood shape right now. The Republican leads Democrat Fisher among independents by a margin of 67 to 25. Portman’s lead remains effectively undiminished since early September, when Quinnipiac last polled the state

All pollsters have shown Fisher trailing badly, and at this point in the cyle it is basically impossible to overcome a double-digit deficit. As election day approaches, Ohio can probably be safely removed from the list of Senate races actually in play.
