DE Sen: Flawed O’Donnell Helps Move Seat Firmly into Dem Column

GOP nominee Christine O’Donnell is clearly one extremely flawed candidate, and her upset win in the Republican primary helped all but guarantee that Democrats will keep control of this open Senate seat. Two new polls have Democrat Chris Coons leading by double digits.

Fairleigh Dickson (9/27-10/3)
Chris Coons (D) 53
Christine O’Donnell (R) 36
Don’t Know 8
Refused 3

University of Delaware (9/16-30)
Chris Coons (D) 49
Christine O’Donnell (R) 30
Other 2
Don’t Know 13
Refused 7

If the GOP had Rep. Mike Castle as their nominee, Republicans would have a good shot at winning this very blue seat, but with O’Donnell the possibility of a Republican victory is now extremely remote.

Because of her long history of weird statements, O’Donnell has become media catnip, but that doesn’t make it a competative race. At this point, Delaware can be moved firmly into the Democrats’ column.
