Get In Gear
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I sure am sick of the Obama administration’s congenitally glass-half-empty attitude towards the progressive base. I hear these people saying we’re like radical leftists. These people ought to be drug tested. I mean, it’s crazy. They will be satisfied when we all celebrate the health care and financial reform bills as great progressive victories, forget about EFCA and DADT, and donate every spare dollar and minute to the campaigns of Blue Dogs and conservadems. That’s not reality. They wouldn’t even be satisfied if Rahm Emanuel ran Firedoglake and Robert Gibbs ran Daily Kos.
When I hear them griping and groaning and saying, “Sure, the left does a great job dissecting lousy Republican ideas but doesn’t clap hard enough for ours”; and, “They’re always debunking conservative lies but never give us a pass on broken campaign promises”; or “You know what, yes, liberal activists and organizers did turn people out in droves to deliver us a landslide victory and 60 Senate seats, but oh, now they want us to actually pass progressive legislation”; or this or that or the other – I say, folks, wake up, this is not some kind of academic exercise. Don’t compare us to OFA, compare us to FOX.
Whatever differences we have pale in comparison to the differences to the folks out there today masquerading as representatives of the American people. The Obama administration needs to stop sulking and get in gear. They better get energized. Because the consequences are serious for the outcome of the things we care most about.
