Progressives And Conservatives Agree!

Great ad by the Campaign for Fair Elections, reminding us that it’s not just progressives who are fed up with our corrupt, corporation-dominated electoral system.  Well, at the ordinary citizen level, anyway.

It’s not that surprising, really – honest progressive and conservative (and moderate) voters all think they have the best ideas on how to fix the country, and simply want those ideas to fight it out on a level playing field, without a giant corporate thumb on the scale.

We all want the candidates with the most popular support to win, and to then make decisions based on what they believe is best for the country and their constituents, not corporations they feel beholden to.  And above all, we want our politicians to care about our voices and our votes, to view us as their employers rather than an annoying cloud of gnats to be ducked, swatted, or waved away.

The Fair Elections Now Act doesn’t go far enough (I’m not sure that would even be constitutionally possible), but it’s a great start and worth supporting as it heads for a committee vote next Thursday.  Please do whatever you can to help.

For what it’s worth, it looks like four of the Committee on House Administration’s nine members are already co-sponsors of the act: Mike Capuano (MA-8), Susan Davis (CA-53), Charles Gonzales (TX-20), and Vice-Chair Zoe Lofgren (CA-16), so Artur Davis (AL-7) and Chairman Robert Brady (PA-1) are probably the members who need the most attention.
