Mattis & The Peace Process

Just wrapped a Danger Room wrap-up of Gen. Mattis’ confirmation hearing. One thing I didn’t think was particularly Danger Room-y was his support for a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Asked for his thoughts on a subject that got Gen. Petraeus needlessly and bizarrely attacked for saying nothing remotely controversial, Mattis obliged. From my notes:

“There is a political cost to the stagnation. It allows radicals to seize the issue with Israel and the Palestinians and it basically traps the moderates in the region. I very strongly endorse what the State Department is doing, pursuing a two-state solution with both sides.”

So. Anyone want to hyperventilate over Mattis’s completely uncontroversial and common-sensical comments? Mister Foxman?

Awesome, awesome image by @dianawueger, after I tweeted a request for someone to tweak the Erykah Badu “Baduizm” record cover to be about Mattis
