Seriously.

Anyone who's read anything I've posted in the last month knows nothing gets my  goat like this nasty, regressive, repressive, discriminatory policy. So why in God's name would I want to kick off another witchhunt?

In the pursuit of Equality.

So long as the law stands, it should be applied equality. No person should be exempt from the tryranny it inflicts on every American. 

Not a Congressman, not a Senator. Yes, I'm looking at you, Senator Lindsey Graham.

Now imagine the following petition making the rounds:

We LGBT citizens demand that proceedings begin to initiate DADT investigations on Rep Kirk and Senator Graham immediately. Rumors are circulating they are gay and they both currently serve in the Armed Forces. Federal law compels they be investigated and their fitness for service be determined. We ask this in the interest of equality under the law.

Yes, it's like an Escher drawing. It's a little gonzo politics, using existing law to serve our own agenda.

And what would it accomplish?

1. It would reinforce the fact that–contrary to delirious oversell of Thursday's vote–DADT is still law. Our soldiers, even those in Congress, are not free from a witch hunts.

2.  It would keep the story of what to do with “Don't ask, don't tell” in the press and the public's attention.

The worst thing right now for those who seek a full repeal and equality for our troops (and by extension all LGBT American citizens) would be to allow this story to fade from view. And that's exactly what Democrats hoped would happen, they'd get this issue off their plate for the midterms. Unfortunately, they didn't actually solve the problem, and it will haunt our community and it should haunt them as well.

We have plenty of reason to believe the study is fixed and the Pentagon is seeking to indefinitely delay repeal or institute a DADT Lite™ policy. And we, the LGBT community have no official power to truly effect the process. If the American people and the news media are allowed to believe “it's a done deal” and let their attention drift, we'll have no oversight on the process at all.

Yes, I know the headlines read third-party outings were over. But Aaron Tax, legal counsel of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Networks says that's not the whole story.  SLDN: Servicemembers can still be outed by 'third parties' under the new DADT policy. It appears the White House has, as usual, oversold and undelivered. I think we should ask the military to check into this, just to be safe.

In fact, if someone with first hand knowledge of Kirk and Graham's true nature could be persauded to testify under oath, I believe that falls within the new “kinder and gentler” regulations. 

Sure, a high profile campaign to target Kirk and Graham would be a circus. But the media loves at a circus! I see no reason not to give them one, if it continues the discussion of how unfair and senseless this law is, and the great importance of ending it now, not later.

I'd recommend, we target the request directly to the commanding officers. The President, as we've seen can insulate himself from any media firestorm. The commanding officers will not be so hard to get at. If we provide names and contact information, they could be on the news by Friday.

And absent media consultants, handlers, and likely any history of speaking to the media, they are likely to say unfortunate things that only stir the pot. 

Now, how to get their names?

Secondly, confirm that Kirk and Graham are still subject to discharge. I've read reports they are still officially on the rolls, but it's good to be sure.
