Is A Predator Drone Joke Funny When Obama Tells One?
"The Jonas Brothers are here; they’re out there somewhere. Sasha and Malia are huge fans. But boys, don’t get any ideas. I have two words for you, ‘predator drones.’ You will never see it coming."
According to Pakistani official statistics, every month an average of 58 civilians were killed during 2009. Of the 44 Predator drone attacks that year, only five targets were correctly identified; the result was over 700 civilian casualties.
Despite Jonathan Alter’s lame defense of Obama as a fellow "father of daughters" on Countdown this evening, I agree with Keith Olbermann: the Predator drone joke was Barack Obama’s "those WMDs must be somewhere" moment at the White House Correspondents’ Association (Prom) Dinner Saturday night.
This man has the most powerful military in the world at his command, and the most destructive. The Predator drone has become a symbol, rightly, of America’s war on Muslim civilians as they marry their children and sleep in their beds.
Predator drones are not a joking matter, President Obama. They never were, but especially not at your hands. You should probably apologize, not to the Jonas Brothers or Malia and Sasha — but to the innocents killed by this tool in your arsenal.
