Canada to Discuss Trans Protections
On May 10th, the Government of Canada will be discussing Bill C-389, which would add gender identity and gender expression to the Canadian Human Rights Act and the hate crimes provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada.
This bill has travelled a long road to get here, and there is considerable pessimism and defeatism surrounding it. While some of us have been making people aware of bill, the general perception has been that it died when Parliament was prorogued, or that there would be an election call before anything would happen with it. With the debate a mere 15 days away, people need to start making those calls now.
If you live in Canada, please, call your MP and express your support. If you don't, please alert your LGBT friends and allies in Canada that this is coming up and encourage them to do so.
