The Independent reports that there is a nascent movement in the UK to arrest His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI when he visits there this fall.  http://www.independent.ie/worl… Any arrest would take place under the "principle of universal jurisdiction," an established principle under international law.  

Universal jurisdiction — a concept in international law — allows UK judges to issue warrants for nearly any visitor accused of grievous crimes, no matter where they live.

British judges have been more open to the concept than those in other countries.

The story notes that this movement includes lawyers, who are presumably familiar with the law and this principle and who see its application in this case to be viable.  It looks as if Benedict’s convenient status as a head of state won’t protect him.

I’m guessing not much will come of this, but it’s a hopeful sign.  If this movement and this attitude spread, Benedict’s days on the Chair of Peter will be numbered.  And if we see the papal visit suddenly canceled for some reason or other, it will be a good indication that the Vatican is worried this might gain traction.
