…buenas dias, comrades, nolehace here…reporting from inside the courtroom…

…first up today was the cross examination of security consultant jerry bullock who the defense attorney attempted to portray as a public relations hack for the union…didn’t work…

…next up was anita torres…by reason of association, it appeared to me that the defense tried to make her a newwho? sympathizer…”you do know so and so, and you were at this newwho? meeting or that one”…guilt by association?…that’s so 1960’s…didn’t work…

…then long-time staff member, gary wong took the stand…gary, the union’s i.t. director, testified how defendants from the long term care division of our union began losing their laptop computers…first, john vellardita, division director, lost his and notified gary by email…then, gabe kristal lost his laptop, and gary testified he was then told by a ms. ortega that she was thinking about reporting her computer stolen…chuckles could be heard in the courtroom…then on to scrambled membership lists that were sent to the international, 200 blackberry’s bought that worked on a server not connected to the union, john borsos alone not coming over to the in-house email system, double deleting of emails, etc…the defense attorney tried to smooth it all over…didn’t work…

…following that, nancy stengel, kaiser employee and shop steward, took her turn exposing the under-belly of this beast…she led us through her tale of working for newwho? but then proceeded to drag so much of the deceit into the light of day…she was given a copy of the deed to the la office in case seiu showed up…they organized folks for sleep-overs in the office…were taught how to videotape…she was given the keys to the building and showed how to lock it at night…she took documents she and others saw…they delivered nasty fliers to a staff members home…she deftly connected staff member barbara lewis and ralph cornejo to the staff involvement in the anti-seiu fight against the trusteeship that the defendants have attempted to make look like a member takeover…didn’t work…

…it was at this point, between witnesses, that I got my title for today’s blog entry…our attorney submitted as evidence, a large array of emails among the defendants showing their sleuthing into where seiu staff were staying, office space they occupied, and photos of the inside of the temporary alameda office…and to top off this, another list of outrages, there was an email from john vellardita that said, “our members will deal with the class collaborators.”…

…I’m thinking witness # 20, edgardo cajina, our union’s finance guy, was today’s version of leon chow’s blow-the-roof-off-the-mutha’ testimony last thursday…like leon, he gave us details, details, and more details from the inside…he wired the money, called in to do it by dan martin on a holiday no less, from our funds to the hokey patient education fund, you know, the same fund that bought the aforementioned 200 blackberrys…he discussed being approached by dan martin, assistant to sal, and being asked about how much cash was on hand…he related how he called joan emslie, the secretary-treasurer, to see if the money transfer was okay…he testified that her response was, “if it’s okay with sal, it’s okay with me”…he related, as have others, that union attorney bill sokol was in on some discussions…dan martin and phyllis willett told him not to talk with seiu if they showed up to keep the International off their trail…didn’t work…

…in closing today, with the jury out of the room, there was a discussion with the judge about extensions on seven contracts being terminated…this resulted in no contract for these workers and a loss of $227,277 in dues which we hope to recoup from sal, et al…their lawyers tried to argue why it wasn’t fair…I guess that didn’t work, either…

…stay tuned…the world keeps turning…
