No need to get into complex analyses.  Two words explain it: ES&S and Diebold. The two sister companies control 80% of America's electronic vote tabulation market.  Neither company allows public officials to inspect their software to eliminate the possibility of fraud – they claim the software is 'private property'.  So, Americans continue, as they have since 2000, to vote on blind faith, trusting the outcome of their elections to these right wing Republican-owned companies.  We may as well be living in an episode of Dukes of Hazzard.  Putting Obama in the Whitehouse temporarily quelled the doubts of electronic voting machine skeptics, but now that his bluff has been called, smart people are beginning to realize they've been had.  If you want Obama to do the will of the people, you first have to ensure he was elected by them.  Even if he was (in this instance) it is crucial to understand WHY and what real purposes his election serves.
