DOD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Brushaun X. Anderson, 20, of Columbus, Ga., died Jan. 1 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when he was attacked by an unknown assailant. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

For more information media may contact the Fort Drum public affairs office at 315-772-7267, or after hours at 315-408-3087.

Update: A little more than an hour after I received this notice from the Defense Department, I received an emailed update about Spc. Anderson that said he died of “wounds suffered from a non-combat related incident.” I don’t know what accounts for reclassifying an attack “by an unknown assailant” in this manner, but perhaps new information has come to light.
