Exotica of WWIII: In the Lap of the Wind
Bala is a village in the Murghab District of the Province of Badghis in Afghanistan. In the Pashto language, Badghis means "lap of the wind."
The body of Army Sgt. Brandon Islip was recovered from the Bala Murgahab River in Badghis province after a local Afghan resident provided information on his whereabouts, officials said. Islip, a paratrooper with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, went missing with another paratrooper Nov. 4 after being swept away by a fast-moving current while on an airdrop re-supply mission in western Afghanistan.
Sgt. Islip lived in Richmond, Virginia, before he shipped out to Afghanistan. At the time of his death, he was 23 years old.
Spc. Benjamin Sherman went into the Bala Murghab River with Sgt. Islip, and both of them died there, near the village of Bala, in the District of Murghab, in the Province of Badghis, in the lap of the wind.
