Lieberman did it!
We’ve seen this all over the place, even here. In this health care fight it’s obvious who the enemies in the Senate are. We’ve called for primaries on every Democrat who opposes real healthcare reform.
Why aren’t we opposing and trying to Primary the man himself, Saint Obama (yes, foreshadowing in that).
I take this moment to bring you to Ryan Grim’s Article
Rahm Emanuel visited Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in his Capitol office on Sunday evening and personally urged him to cut a deal with recalcitrant Sen. Joe Lieberman, two Democratic sources familiar with the situation told the Huffington Post.
Emanuel, President Obama’s chief of staff, has long been identified as leading a faction of White House advisers who have been pushing the Senate simply to pass any health care bill, no matter how weak.
His direct message to Reid (D-Nev.), according to a source close to the negotiations: "Get it done. Just get it done."
But wait! That’s the White House….Telling Harry Reid to make a deal with Lieberman. Let me restate that for force.
Harry Reid doesn’t want to deal…The white House TOLD him to make a deal.
But all this time we’ve been told Reid is the problem. We’ve been told Reid is the one we need to focus on. As an Aside, I’m not trying to say putting pressure on Reid was a waste, not so at all. I’m saying we can’t forget about the WH.
Now Rahm is a politically savvy man, much to our disgust quite often. But do you think he tells the Senate majority leader what to do without the OK from his boss?
Of course not.
That article headline should have read "Obama tell Reid to make deal with Lieberman". But we won’t do that? Why do the progressives keep giving the man a pass?
This isn’t the first time the White house has pressured Lieberman either. I give you Jane’s own list of the White Houses active fight for triggers and weakening healthcare reform.
Now remember when reading this, when you see Rahm’s name, you’re actually seeing Obama’s. Rahm doesn’t get to make those kinds of decisions, Obama does. So while yes, Obama may not be the one actually telling the senators to sell out, they ARE his orders being given by his right hand man.
And yet still We won’t raise a finger against Saint Obama.
It’s not all about Healthcare either. The ongoing debacle that is the financial world makes my point also.
I won’t be to long winded and dig up Elizabeth Warren’s articles on the subject. But I’ll just give you this article from today.
But now the White House has been left in the position of extending invitations, rather than exercising its clout. And in the figurative and literal sense, it is getting stood up.
That’s not even Obama selling himself to these people(Summers, Geihtner), this is just how little force they see the man having.
Yet through all of this Saint Obama takes no heat.
Why? What are we all so afraid of?
Are we so Demoralized after 8 years of Bush that even a backpedaling centrist sellout seems like a gift from on high? Which is even stranger considering the left should be Secular.
Are we afraid of backlash from the Black community? I know the first African American president is a hard force to fight against. But go back and look at those Daily Kos tracking numbers from the Enthusiasm gap. African American Enthusiasm is down even less than overall Democratic enthusiasm.
But it is a scary force to overcome. I remember quite clearly the image of a row of Black men watching him speak, holding framed pictures and bowing down with them over and over again as if they were having a religious experience.
That kind of Foolishness is hard to fight against, I get it. How do you tell a man that his god is a lie?
I’ll take a small aside here and direct you to This Diary. It’s a great example of why the left needs to be more and more secular. How can you talk people out of the "Saint Obama" mindset while you believe water molecules will literally turn into wine molecules?
But back on track, how long does it take for us to stand up to him and Rahm? How many times do we have to be shown that Obama is NOT on our side and does not share our values? How many times does he literally have to spit in our faces before this point is clear?
How long before we actually start calling for a primary challenger to Obama?
We can’t wait with this one either. Presidential elections started the day Obama got sworn in. If we’re going to be felt in any meaningful way we need to start opposing Obama right now.
So I ask you my fellow firedogs…how many times does the White house have to spit in your face before you spit back?
Because if you think the next big issue, be it energy, immigration, DADT…ANY of these issues. If you think Obama is going to change his game plan, if you think He’s going to start attacking centrists instead of us, well you just haven’t been paying attention.
