Tom Coburn got a bit too clever by half with his health care amendment that every member of Congress be required to sign up for the public option. He wanted to use it as a cudgel, and tried to block Sherrod Brown from signing on as a co-sponsor. However, the negative attention from this forced his hand, and Brown did get on the amendment through unanimous consent. Now Chris Dodd and Barbara Mikulski have signaled their intention to sign on to the bill. Dodd spoke on the Senate floor today.

Coburn actually offered the amendment to the health care bill in the HELP Committee, and it passed there, so it’s not like there was going to be some “gotcha” moment. I don’t think this is turning out the way Coburn planned.
