“Victimized” Christian Creates Soap Opera Soap Opera
We have a new clapper for the bell in the right wing echo chamber. Fox News is reporting that Patricia Mauceri says she was fired and abruptly replaced on “One Life to Live” for objecting to a gay storyline because of her religious beliefs. Mauceri, 59, a devout Christian, told FOX News that character Vega's gay-friendly dialogue was not in line with the character she helped create by drawing on her own faith.
I did not object to being in a gay storyline. I objected to speaking the truth of what that person, how that person would live and breathe and act in that storyline,” she said. “And this goes against everything I am, my belief system, and what I know the character's belief system is aligned to.
Mauceri said she was replaced despite offering changes to the script and hoping for a compromise.
Victimization for profit? If you listen very carefully, you can hear the sound of ADF penning a summons and complaint. It's fiction. It is called acting for a reason. Indeed it is a soap opera. Actors play the roles that they are given and, unless specified in their contract, are not participants in script development. The actor's “belief system” is irrelevant to the character that he or she is paid to portray. Even Tom Cruise plays roles that are antithetical to his religious beliefs. I am sure that Ms. Mauceri will try to get as much mileage as she can from this controversy that is of her own making. She is probably planning a Prejean-like victimization tour. My only question is when will she do advertisements against gay marriage?
Not unexpectedly, the Porno Pete is doing his part. Somehow, he is conflating this as a reason to oppose ENDA. LaBarbera has a knack for confirming his remarkable stupidity at every opportunity.
