New NBC/WSJ Poll: 21% Approve of GOP on Health Care Reform

Lots of interesting numbers in the new NBC/WSJ. A few takeaways.

1) The more sensational GOP/Teabagger zombie lies are taking hold. Notes Benen

If the poll is accurate, nearly half the country seriously believes government officials seek the authority to pull the plug on grandma. That’s insane, and it points to a political discourse that’s badly broken.

2) Despite a month of guns and swastikas, the numbers on Obama’s handling of health care reform haven’t budged (41% approve/47% disapprove; 41/46 last month). Note: the question is about his "handling" — not the proposals themselves.

3) 62% said the town hall mob scenes had no impact on their opinion. 16% said it made them more favorable to reform, 19% said less favorable. Epic Teabagger fail.

4) 60% still think our health care system needs a "complete overhaul" or "major reform."

5) The big lesson for the White House? Completely ignore Republicans.

Do you generally approve or disapprove of the way that Republicans in Congress are handling the issue of health care reform?

Approve ……………………………………..21
Disapprove …………………………………62
Not sure ……………………………………..17

Those town halls were a big win for conservatives!

Look, the GOP has absolutely no credibility on this issue. That means a “bipartisan compromise” actually hurts Obama and the Democrats.

Maybe the White House has finally figured that out.
