My little granddaughter with Down Syndrome is, like all children with her chromosomal arrangement, basically uninsurable. This is, of course, because they are prone to a number of health problems and will probably need quite a bit of actual health care during their lives.
Now that Sarah Palin is presumably no longer eligible for a government employee health plan, I’m wondering how her baby is covered. If Todd Palin is still employed and a union member, as was previously reported, then his union-negotiated plan may cover the baby. But he’d better not think of quitting. Unless the family’s income qualifies the children for medicaid (DS children don’t automatically qualify until they are 18) or S-CHIP (both GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE programs) the Palins will have a real problem. I think Ms. Palin should be worried about this for her child rather than her imaginary euthanasia program.
